Inspiring creativity and encouraging personal and social change through the arts

The Prison Arts Foundation is as important as it is unique. Thanks to our pioneering work with people with convictions lives are being transformed and patterns of behaviour changed for good.

Our team of experienced professional artists working across the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland are offering people with convictions a life-line, helping to improve their creative and communications skills, which is key to personal and social development, building self-confidence and unlocking people’s potential.

Prisoner’s Voices

Time In magazine serves as the main platform for showcasing the creative work of our writers. Originating from the writer’s group at Magilligan Prison, it has grown to encompass a variety of skills such as research, journalism, and IT proficiency. Through Time In, writers explore what makes an article or story compelling, learning not only about content creation but also about the techniques behind effective writing and decision-making.
All In magazine, a groundbreaking cross-border publication, is the result of a collaboration between the Irish Prison Service and the Prison Arts Foundation. Like Time In, its ethos is centred around the idea of “by prisoners, for prisoners.” Featuring artwork and creative writing from incarcerated individuals across Ireland, All In provides a unique platform for alternative forms of expression. It complements major events like the Listowel Writers’ Week Literary Writing competition and the Koestler Awards, celebrating the power of creative writing in the context of criminal justice.
