Inspiring creativity and encouraging personal and social change through the arts

The Prison Arts Foundation is as important as it is unique. Thanks to our pioneering work with people with convictions lives are being transformed and patterns of behaviour changed for good.

Our team of experienced professional artists working across the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland are offering people with convictions a life-line, helping to improve their creative and communications skills, which is key to personal and social development, building self-confidence and unlocking people’s potential.

People attending PAF’s workshops believe that sharing their work is a very important aspect of engaging with the arts. Each year our artists in residence work with their students to create artworks, they submit them to competitions and awards on their behalf and support them to showcase their work in exhibitions and publications.

The Listowel Writers in Prison competition enables PAF students to practice the art of getting published and the awards go a long way to helping them build a literary portfolio.

We currently have programmes across the following artforms: Visual Art, Craft & Design, Writing & Performance and Audio. Click on the categories below to see examples of the original and unique artworks.
