HMP Magillian Residency Projects

A member of the Creative Writing group has spent many hours pulling together a presentation on the benefits of the creative writing workshops at HMP Magilligan. He has also selected some examples of work completed in the creative writing group from 2015-2017.
Thoughts from a participant
“Creative writing has had a positive impact on my sentence as it has taken me from the depths of depression and brought me back to life.”
Thoughts from the Writer in Residence, Pamela Brown
“The work produced in the class is always innovative, inspiring and insightful. Writing takes focus and staying power and needs discipline to see a project through to fruition.  The group not only focus on their individual work but peer read and critique, thus enhancing critical analysis skills which ultimately feeds back into your own work.  Self reflection and the ability to tell a good story are vital as well as selecting the genre appropriate to your work; be this poetry, short story, a novel, a film script, a radio play, a book review or article writing and interviews for TIME IN magazine, a Prison Arts Foundation sponsored publication.”
